About the Partnership

Our Mission is to strengthen the ability of the Partnership's public and private partners to enhance the development, maintenance, management, and protection of the National Trails System.

We promote the appropriate use of the National Trails System for the education and appreciation of all.

The Partnership works to secure better public and private funding for the important work of both its nonprofit trail organizations and their volunteers and the Federal agencies that administer the National Trails System. The Partnership also works to improve communication and coordination among its trail organizations and the Federal agencies responsible for managing the national scenic and historic trails and to increase public awareness of and agency support for the National Trails System. The National Trails system offers the American public a tremendous variety of recreation, preservation, fitness, and heritage opportunities. National Trails are designated by Congress for the crucial role each trail plays for re- tracing American history and celebrating the diverse natural beauty of the United States.

The National Trails System links historic sites, wildlife refuges, national parks, national forests, wilderness areas, and other public lands with communities, and it provides unique linear corridors for environmental and historical preservation. Building, maintaining, and interpreting the National Trails system thus requires complex collaboration between federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private landowners.

YOU can get involved (link to "Get Involved" page) by volunteering with/ joining a local trail organization, participating in advocacy, or financially supporting the efforts of the Partnership and/or its partner organizations.
