Trails Advocacy Week – PNTS Program Updated Schedule Available
Posted on December 21, 2011 at 9:01 pm
Trails Advocacy Week brings together trails enthusiasts and leaders to Washington, D.C., to inform our congressional representatives and their staff of the great work taking place on the National Trails System and to encourage their continued financial support for the national scenic and historic trails.  During the week, hikers and trails advocates from across the nation will share experiences and advice, learn grassroots lobbying skills and strategies, and advocate for increased funding, promotion, and protection of our national system of trails and our natural, cultural, and historic heritage.
This year, the registration process has CHANGED, so PLEASE READ the information below CAREFULLY BEFORE REGISTERING.

Traditionally, the PNTS and American Hiking Society have co-hosted one Trails Advocacy Week event- with a shared registration.  This year the PNTS will have a separate program and separate registration tailored directly to our trails partners to maximize opportunities for congressional and agency  leader meetings.  The AHS program focuses on involving a wider audience in congressional advocacy only.  The schedule below outlines the events of the week and what type of registration is needed. It is not necessary to register for both programs.  If you have any questions about which program is more likely to fit your needs, please contact PNTSCommunications@gmail.com.

This trail near Council Grove, Kansas received NRT status in 2009.  Of historic note, this trail is located along the Santa Fe NHT and includes some buffalo wallows.  This recent addition makes a total of 63 NRTs managed by the Corps of Engineers.
