Socorro, New Mexico, May 14-18, 2012

Tool Box for National Historic Trails

This Tool Box is prepared by Steve Burns of the National Park Service-National Trails System Intermountain Region.  In one file, the tool box holds details about the National Trails System Act and a substantial set of practical resources for historic trails leaders on topics including: overview descriptions of elements of NHTs, creating sign plans, understanding comprehensive management plans, the national register nomination process, long range interpretive plans, development concept plans, historic research and documentation, teacher-ranger-teacher interpretation, brochures, mobile tours, cultural landscape reports, partnership certification, Federal Challenge Cost Share and Connect Trails to Parks Funding,  Transportation Enhancement Funds, local and state grants, metropolitan planning organization transportation plans, community recreation open-space/trails plans, and local zoning and ordinances.

A must-not-miss resource for Historic Trails Leaders, with many concepts also applicable to national scenic trails as well!
